I promised a food blog and here it is. For some reason,
particularly since I got my new camera, I’ve taken lots of photos of food. Now
all I have to do is to find them all.
I’ve eaten in many different countries, and looking back it
would have been great to have a. had a camera or b. thought to take photos of
what I was eating. Back in those days, people would have thought I was nutz.
Most people still think I’m nutz for taking pictures of food, but when you see
these photos, you will understand just how visually different all food is.
When I was in Sydney,
M&K made some soup. They are vegetarian so I had to change my eating habits
considerably. The nice things was, that I can’t cook vegetarian, so they did
all the cooking. Here’s some soup we had.

Here’s one of the earliest ones I can find. Some of you may
remember, because I blogged this one.

This was my dessert at a restaurant called the Cantina. My
son had come to visit and a lot of his friends had either worked here or
generally had good memories of the place. I took this photo because it looked
so incredibly rude and gave me a good giggle. It is called Platanos. I know
because I took a photo of the menu and all.
It is a fried banana covered in peanut caramel sauce and
served with ice cream and nuts.
So there you go. Interesting. I thought so at the time.
This next one was taken December 2005. It’s interesting to
me for a couple of reasons.

This picture was taken in a place called Cold Rock Ice Creamery.
One reason I find it interesting is that I’d never been here before. You order
your ice cream, and then you order the extras. The staff have cold metal
benches and they mix your ice cream and your extras together and then put it in
a cone or container for you. Some of the combinations are interesting.
There are plenty of fruit combinations (strawberry,
raspberry, passionfruit), but you can get flake, peanut butter and just about
anything else you can think of.

Here are some.
Another reason it is interesting is that this Christmas when
I went to Sydney,
M&K and I went to the one in Sydney.
So now I’ve been to two Cold Rock Ice Creameries. (Not sure how to spell that
one).
Here’s another one that people
thought I was nutz for taking. Lunch with friends. One who was in Perth
for chemotherapy for breast cancer. A young woman, not the age you would expect
breast cancer. So this one brings other memories.

I remember it as being a
surprisingly pleasant afternoon with a bald friend, who if she is reading this
will get a giggle from my memory.
The person making the lunch went
to a lot of effort, and I’m sure she was pleased at how it turned out.
This next one is at another
friend’s place. She always goes to a lot of trouble to present not only the
food, but the setting. She loves to decorate and loves tradition. So she will
use any holiday as an excuse to decorate and entertain. This was a breakfast
she put on in April 2006. I’ve found photos of 15 people. She put on a table
with cereal, cheeses, yoghurt, crackers,
and cold meats. As well we had a barbeque with sausages, steak, bacon,
eggs and lots more.

They have a very long jarrah
table outside on their patio and we all picked out what we wanted, had champagne
and coffee to drink, and more food than any one person could eat.
This time I didn’t take a photo
of the table, but as usual it was decorated elegantly.
Sometimes even the coffee looks interesting.

Oh, yes, Sticky date pudding.
Australians seem to love their sticky date pudding. I’d never tasted it. Went
for a day outing with a friend to Fremantle and stopped for some afternoon tea.
We shared a sticky date pudding in case I didn’t like it. Again, he thought I
was nutz for taking a photo of it.

Surprisingly tasty, I must admit.
Another memorable event, my 6th
birthday party at work. This was a total surprise. They decided that because
they didn’t have 60 candles, they would give me 6 instead and it flowed from
there. I’ve written about this one.

Oh, yes, just found the Spirit of
the West photos. The Spirit of the West is a train. For some reason, dining on
the train has always seemed so elegant and extravagant. This trip was both. The
Spirit of the West is a Western Australian train, which goes through the Swan
Valley, through some very pretty
countryside, and while the train is travelling, the passengers are eating. The
waiters wear gloves, that just shows you how elegant the whole thing was. About
8 of us went to celebrate friends 20th anniversary. If I remember
rightly there were 5 courses, which were so well orchestrated that we never
felt rushed, but finished everything in time to step off the train when it
arrived back in Perth.

There were vegetables to be
added. It wasn’t one of these classy eating places who believe that class means
lack of food.

The vegetables, of course, came
separately, passed around by the gloved waiters and you helped yourself.
This is what I’m eating now.
Now don’t that look yummy and
visually appealing.
