 I burned my dawg's feet today !!
Back to Full Blog

This is Ally. She is about 10 years old. She loves going for walks. So today I took her out early during the day so I didn’t get involved in other things and get cranky when she wanted me to take her out and I wanted to finish what I was doing.

So off we went to the park. I figured she needed a good run today so I took her to a large park and we walked around. However, as the day started to heat up, I started to think like maybe, just maybe, this wasn’t such a great idea. So to get to the car quicker, I took a shortcut through the protected area. Now before anyone starts to think anything funny, there was a path through the protected area, and that’s where we headed.

As we walked, Ally would run in front of me, and then stop suddenly. I couldn’t work out what she was doing until I got some sand in my shoes. Then I realised. Her little feet were too hot on the sand. So we continued down the sandy track until we got to the shady park. I don’t think her feet are too bad. She’s not limping.

Here’s the path.

Just to finish off our day, I saw some really kewl graffiti.

She is fine, KazzaB, but must admit I felt like a bad dawg owner there for a few minutes

Nah, you could never be a bad dawg owner Gezunda. You wouldn't have written about it, feeling bad if you were. You would have kept quiet and nobody would have known. How's that for logic!!............KazzaB

Yes, Rosie, Dawgs are as tough as kids are. I also thought the Graffiti was great. I hadn't notice the stick in the middle when I took the photo.

Go to a store that carries health kinds of things and get some Aloe Vera GEL, NOT Aloe Vera Juice. Put it on her paws repeatedly until they are better. It won't hurt her if she licks her paws as long as you're getting pure Aloe Vera Gel. I get mine at Fred Meyer, or a health food store. If you had an Aloe Vera Plant, you could but a piece off and split it open and use it carefully to rub very gently the jell substance onto her paws, but it would probably be more painful than the jell in the bottle.

These things can happen.

Thanks for that information, Victorian Muse. I thought of putting her feet in cold water which I tried to do when I got home, but she wasn't happy with that (she's not a water dog), but she does seem okay, no limping, no favouring one foot. I think she was smart enough to stand in the shady bits until her feet cooled off - a bit like us with a hot steering wheel when we get into the car on a hot summer's day.

Ally is cute.
Its easy to feel a bad dog owner when your baby is suffering but as KazzaB said, a real bad dog owner wouldnt have felt bad!!!

Thanks Kahless. She's a pretty cute little girl, isn't she? Shame I can't bring her to the UK with me later this year. Wonder what an Aussie dawg would make of seeing snow for the first time
